Height Safety Technical Manager

My role at Omega Red Group

As Height Safety Technical Manager, I help clients reduce risk and protect lives by ensuring that all work-at-height systems are designed, installed and maintained to market leading safety and compliance standards.

I drive technical excellence and best practice, shaping how height safety is implemented across Omega Red’s projects and teams.

My background and experience

After gaining a BSc at Edinburgh Uni, then a Master’s degree in Oceanography, I worked as a scientific diver and marine biologist overseas.

I returned to England and transferred my surveying and reporting skills to the world of height safety. Starting as an abseil inspection operative, I progressed to the role of height safety department manager and have now been in the industry for nearly 25 years.

How I add value

  • I provide technical leadership internally and externally, translating what can be complex standards and regulations into practical, high-quality solutions across large and high-profile projects.

  • I drive consistency and performance by mentoring and embedding best practice, developing market leading reporting and documentation.

  • I reduce risks and potential incidents by ensuring compliance to relevant standards.

Fun fact

I love rugby and, although my playing days are (nearly) behind me, I endeavour to pass on what knowledge I have as the coach of my local club Uttoxeter U12s (two times county champs!) team where my son plays, and the newly created women’s ‘Vixens’ team.

When not on a muddy pitch I love hitting the hills (preferably on Mull) with my family.
