Matthew Waldram
Technical and Compliance Manager
My role at Omega Red Group
In my role as Technical and Compliance Manager, I translate complex lightning protection concepts into solutions that are compliant and deliverable across diverse facilities, from industrial plants to high-risk infrastructure.
My background and experience
After a 16-year career in industrial and commercial electrical contracting, I joined Omega Red Group where I have developed extensive experience in lightning protection, spanning design, standards development and real-world implementation. I represent the lightning protection industry on national (BSI GEL/81) and international (IEC TC/81) lightning protection standards committees.
How I add value
- I am a trusted expert in lightning protection standards and risk-based design.
- I’m adept at gap analysis of existing lightning and surge protection systems against up-to-date requirements.
- I ensure that our technical documentation is up to date and fit for purpose.
- I bridge technical standards with practical, real-world application.
- I influence national and international guidance through committee work.
- Along with my colleague Tim Lee, from our Height Safety division, I co-chair the Omega Red Group Quality Committee, working to consistently deliver our technical excellence and best practice across the business.
Fun fact
In my earlier life I was a drummer in many bands and on recording sessions, and music remains my passion, alongside lightning protection of course. I am an active member of industry body, the Association of Technical Lightning and Access Specialists (ATLAS), and lead their lightning protection technical committee. I also contribute to the development and revision of key standards, such as BS EN IEC 62305.
