Omega Red Group is delighted to have gained its ISO 19443 accreditation.
The accreditation, which was awarded by LRQA, demonstrates Omega Red’s commitment to combining best practices in quality and safety with the specific requirements of working in the nuclear industry.
Omega Red has carried out lightning protection and earthing works in the nuclear industry for over 20 years at several sites which include Hinkley Point, Sizewell and Sellafield.
A significant piece of work for the team was its involvement with the Hinkley Point C project and the lift of the steel roof onto the building which was set to house the first of two nuclear reactors.
The team completed the majority of all earthing requirements for the project, including ‘Big Carl’, the largest land based mobile crane in the world, used to lift the roof into place and the 47-meter diameter steel containment shield, a critical safety feature within the reactor build.
Omega Red welcomed the opportunity to be audited by LRQA on whether it was meeting the ISO 19443 standard clauses. The successful audit, and subsequent accreditation, boosts Omega Red’s credibility in providing services that meet nuclear safety and quality requirements, as well as highlighting the reliability of Omega’s processes and its focus on development and continuous improvement.
Roy Westwick, Safety, Health, Environmental and Quality Manager, commented: “Gaining this certification has shown our commitment to nuclear quality and nuclear safety culture and enhances our reputation as a trusted supplier in the nuclear industry. Later this year, we look forward to completing our Focus Audit to ensure we are still meeting the clauses and are continually improving.”
