Health and safety

Our health and safety commitment

Omega Red Group is an integral part of the South Staffordshire Plc group of businesses, which holds a prestigious ROSPA Gold Award recognising its global leadership in shaping safer, healthier workplaces.

We live by the shared Group safety identity of ‘Staying Safe Together’. ‘Staying Safe Together’ is a three-tiered framework for how we approach our day-to-day role whilst ensuring the best safety outcomes for our employees and those affected by our work.

Our commitment to our employees
We ensure our employees have what they need to work safely and effectively, setting them up for success. This includes:

  • Quality, trusted leadership and supervision

  • Access to resources and time to plan work effectively

  • Effective tools, equipment and assets that enhance safe working

  • Opportunities to acquire knowledge through training and mentoring

  • A culture that thrives on accountability, honesty and fairness

Our expectations of our employees
Our employees’ attitude, behaviour and performance directly impacts and influences their safety and the safety of each other at work. We expect employees to:

  • Hold each other accountable by challenging anything that they believe could lead to harm

  • Start only when they have a clear and safe way to finish

  • Stop and report if they are unable to follow plans or risk assessments

  • Care for the safety and wellbeing of other team members

  • Report accidents or near misses/hazards

Share, learn and improve
We must engage with learning to ensure we can improve by understanding what is working and what isn’t. This looks like:

  • Learning both proactively and reactively from success and failures

  • Responding to events with an intent to learn

  • Recognising and celebrating successes

  • Utilising the knowledge and skills of the experts closest to the work

  • Actively searching for safety and wellbeing improvements

A large percentage of our workforce operate remotely and in challenging environments, so we embed this approach across our work and culture, supporting our employees and providing them with everything they need to perform their role as safely as possible.

Omega is accredited to ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001 standards for quality, environmental, and occupational health and safety management, and is a member of the Safe Contractor scheme. Employees have access to specialist occupational health advisors, who can provide proactive health surveillance and advice in order to keep our employees fit and healthy.

A group level health and safety strategy forum, led by the Group Chief Executive and supported by the Head of Health and Safety, continues to oversee activities and build on its commitment in this important area of the business.
